* Students must complete either CHM 141  OR BIO 226  PRIOR to starting the ADN program. Students must maintain “C” or higher in all courses. All students must complete the practical nursing curriculum. All PN courses must be completed with a “C” or better prior to beginning ADN courses. It is strongly recommended that all ADN general education courses are completed prior to beginning the ADN program. Active and unencumbered Illinois LPN license is required prior to entering the first year, fall semester classes. The following courses are included in the minimum hours of this degree

A national licensure examination test must be passed in order to be employed in this career.

1 Students must be certified in CPR annually (ALH 101 ) before starting Clinical Rotations.

Students planning to transfer and pursue a baccalaureate degree should, when given a choice, enroll in the general education course that is IAI GECC approved and articulated with participating Illinois institutions.

Additional Information: The Associate Degree Nursing Program provides practical nurses the opportunity to achieve an associate degree in nursing and take the NCLEX-RN Exam; builds on the practical nurse program of education in communication skills, nursing process, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and basic nursing skills; provides appropriate educational opportunities to prepare the graduate to adhere to standards and scope of practice as set forth in the Illinois Nursing Act and American Nursing Association; and creates an environment that encourages lifelong learning and professional development.

This unique program is designed to prepare the student for the practice of professional nursing as defined in the Illinois Nurse Practice Act of 2017 and meets the requirements for schools approved for associate degree nursing by the Illinois Department of Financial Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

The applicant should contact the Testing Services Office at the College. The Associate Degree Nursing Program entry packet can be located at the following link www.jalc.edu/admissions/restricted-allied-health-admission. The steps to be followed are specified in the packet. In addition to completing a college application, the applicant must be able to do the following:

  • provide proof of successful completion of an approved school of practical nursing
  • successfully complete the associate degree nursing pre-entrance examination and the ASSET Test
  • must possess an unencumbered active Illinois LPN license.
