Paying for College

A degree or certificate from John A. Logan College is a great value; you can complete your academic work close to home and at a fraction of the cost of a four-year university. We strive to make it easy to place your goals within reach. As a result, there are many ways to pay for college, including:

Financial Aid:
Students will need to complete their FAFSA online at studentaid.gov to determine eligibility for PELL, MAP and SEOG grants. Once all requirements have been met to receive aid, the billing statement will deduct any awarded student financial aid. All questions concerning the application and financial aid disbursements should be directed to the Financial Aid Office in C210.

Scholarships:
Many scholarships are available through the John A. Logan College Foundation, funded by generous benefactors of our students.

Bill Payment:
Students can pay their Bursar bill online through the student portal at MyJALC, over the phone at Ext. 8201, or in-person at the Bursar’s Office located at C213.

Payment Plan Option:
Students can enroll in the NelNet Payment Plan through the myJALC portal under the “Billing/Finances tab.” Automatic payment will be deducted from a checking or savings account (ACH) or from a credit or debit card on the 20th of each month. A non-refundable enrollment fee will be charged per agreement upon sign up. Payment plan instructions and enrollment dates can be found on the College website.

Students with balances over $200 may enroll in a payment plan of up to six months, subject to approval by the Bursar Office. Payments must be set up as regular electronic withdrawals from a bank account or credit card. Once the payment plan is successfully set up, the student will be allowed to register.

Student Loans:
Students who do not otherwise qualify for grants or financial aid may be eligible for private student loans. The College does not process or assist with these private student loans, but proceeds from these loans may be used to help pay for college.

Refund Policy

Students withdrawing from credit-bearing courses during the following periods will be given 100% refunds:

  • First 14 calendar days of the Fall and Spring Semesters excluding spring break;

Financial Responsibility

By registering for classes at John A. Should students default on their account, JALC may use any and all means necessary to collect this debt in accordance with state and federal laws.

Debt Collection

The Bursar Office will submit past due balances of $10 or more to Illinois Debt Recovery each semester. However, students actively enrolled in a past-due payment plan will not be reported. The debt reporting timeline can be found in Administrative Procedure, 718

In compliance with the Student Debt Assistance Act, the College will not withhold official transcripts or diplomas due to outstanding balances related to tuition, fees, or returned financial aid. Students with outstanding debt may request an official transcript for job applications, transfer to another institution, state, federal, or institutional financial aid applications, joining the U.S. Armed Forces or Illinois National Guard, and other postsecondary opportunities. Students with debt will only be charged the standard transcript fee.

Definition of In-District Residency for Tuition and Credit Hour Claim Purposes

An in-district student at John A. Logan College, District No. 530, is defined for tuition purposes as someone who can prove residency within the district’s legal boundaries. Students must submit proof of residency within the first 14 days for courses lasting 9 to 16 weeks, and within the first 7 days for courses lasting 4 to 8 weeks. For courses shorter than 4 weeks, residency must be established by the first day of the course. If a student is enrolled in multiple courses with varying lengths, the College will determine residency based on the course that starts first. If documentation is submitted after the specified deadlines, any residency changes will apply to the following semester. Students must have resided within the district for at least 30 days before the first day of class. To determine if you meet requirements for in-district tuition, please see our District Map

Acceptable forms of residency documentation can be found on our Residency Requirements webpage. Student should submit residency verification by filling out the Application for Change of Residency form, email residency documentation to admissions@jalc.edu, or deliver residncy documentation in-person to the Admissions and Records Office in C201.

International students who are asylum seekers, DACA recipients, or individuals with Temporary Protected Status will be eligible for in-state tuition (or in-district tuition if they can provide one of the acceptable documents showing an in-district address) if students meet all of the following criteria: students must provide a signed affidavit stating their intent to become a permanent resident as soon as they are eligible; students must have lived with a parent or guardian while attending high school in Illinois; students must have graduated from an Illinois high school or earned the equivalent of a high school diploma in Illinois; and students must have attended school in Illinois for at least three years prior to graduation or earning the equivalent diploma.
