John A. Logan College recognizes that assessment of student learning is central to its mission and has developed a systematic and purposeful process for the assessment of student learning based on five institutional learning outcomes.
Institutional Learning Outcomes
The faculty and staff of John A. Logan College are committed to providing students with opportunities to develop learning abilities that will last a lifetime. Graduates will be prepared to succeed in their personal and professional lives because of achieved competence in the following institutional learning outcomes:
- Communication: Students express thoughts, ideas, and feelings in both writtenand oral modes.
- Critical Thinking: Students apply a rational and methodical approach to problemsolving based on use of appropriate evidence.
- Cultural and Global Awareness: Students demonstrate an understanding of theinfluence of culture and society.
- Information Literacy: Students locate, evaluate, retrieve, organize, create, anddisseminate information.
- Quantitative Reasoning: Students use and understand numbers to interpret, evaluate, and express information in quantitative terms.
Assessment at Various Levels
In each course, student learning is assessed to evaluate their ability to achieve specific course objectives. These course level objectives may be aligned with broader Program Level Outcomes (PLOs). PLOs are categorized under Division Level Outcomes (DLOs), which in turn are mapped to Institutional Level Outcomes (ILOs). These ILOs are endorsed by both internal and external institutional stakeholders.
