Our Workforce Development program offers customizable training, upskilling and reskilling employees, and fast-track programs designed to connect local talent with the evolving needs of Southern Illinois employers. Delivered on campus or on site, our courses aim to boost productivity and meet real workforce demands, with options such as:
• Leadership and Supervisory Training
• Technology and Software Skills
• CPR, First Aid, and Phlebotomy
• Workplace Safety
• State and Industry Certifications
• Manufacturing Training
Additionally, non-transferable vocational skills credits are available to help individuals enhance their qualifications for employment, job retention, or career advancement. Many courses also offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs) for ongoing professional growth.

Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP)
The Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) is a free, comprehensive pre-apprenticeship program that prepares individuals for careers in the highway construction trades. Funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, HCCTP is focused on increasing workforce diversity by supporting minorities, women, and disadvantaged individuals.
This 450-hour program blends classroom learning with hands-on training. Students build foundational skills in math, job readiness, and life skills, while gaining practical experience in concrete, carpentry, and welding. The curriculum also introduces participants to various trade unions and prepares them for apprenticeship opportunities.
Participants earn industry-recognized certifications, including OSHA 10-Hour, Forklift Safety, CPR/First Aid, Portable Fire Extinguisher Use, Flagger Certification, plus 32 hours of welding lab training.
Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid driver’s license, and agree to random drug screening and a background check.

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
Man-Tra-Con, Corp. is housed on the JALC campus and has grant funding available to assist students with attending college. Students may be eligible for assistance with tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation, childcare, testing fees, etc. The Man-Tra-Con Career Specialist on campus can provide information in determining eligibility and accessing services under the WIOA program. Man-Tra-Con can also help students with finding employment upon completion of the student’s college program. All of these services are provided at no cost to the student. Community Education Courses
John A. Logan College’s Community Education program opens the door to personal growth and lifelong learning. Students explore new hobbies, build practical skills, and enjoy inspiring, hands-on experiences.
Our non-credit courses are designed for learners of all ages and backgrounds. From painting and photography to cooking, money management, and kids’ camps, there’s truly something for everyone. Whether you’re rekindling an old interest or trying something brand new, our classes are affordable, engaging, and led by instructors who make learning exciting.
And learning continues outside the classroom with hands-on workshops and flexible options, all of which help fit personal enrichment into our students’ busy schedules.
In addition, members from the community with valuable experience and skills to share are invited to complete a Teaching Request Form for consideration to become part of our instructor team.
