ACC 202 - Managerial Accounting IAI Number Major: BUS904 3 Credit Hour(s) 3 Lecture Hour(s) 0 Lab Hours(s) Prerequisite(s): ACC 201 (SIU 220) and Sophomore Standing This course provides an introduction to accounting techniques used by internal company managers when they are faced with planning, directing, controlling and decisionmaking activities in their organizations. Managerial accounting is presented as a system of producing information for use in internally managing a business. The course emphasizes the identification, accumulation, and interpretation of information for planning, controlling, and evaluating the performance of separate components of a business. Included is the identification and measurement of the costs of producing goods or services and how to analyze and control these costs. Decision models commonly used in making specific short- and long-term business decisions are also included. Accounting information can be used to identify and analyze alternatives and to guide the manager to a course of action that will yield the greatest benefit to the firm. While the major emphasis in financial accounting is on the accumulation and presentation of historical accounting data to external decision-makers, the emphasis in managerial accounting is on the presentation and analysis of that data to the internal decision-makers.
