ASL 244 - ASL IV-Survey of ASL Literature 4 Credit Hour(s) 4 Lecture Hour(s) 0 Lab Hours(s) Prerequisite(s): ASL 143 This course explores American Sign Language Literature through analysis of storytelling and poetry of the American Deaf Community. Students will increase their ASL expressive and receptive skills by studying a variety of genres including narratives, handshape stories, humor, and poetry. Topics to be discussed range form the history and definition of ASL Literature with emphasis on cultural aspects of the Deaf World, ASL Storytelling features, ASL performance interpreting and ASL poetry forms and features. Use of American Sign Language is required for this course.
