-Students will be required to complete ALH 101 & MAT 115 , in the first Fall semester.
-All STP courses must be taken in the sequence as stated in the curriculum.
-Students must be at least 18 years old. -Must maintain grade of C or better in all courses (gen ed and STP courses).
-Students must sit for the National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) national certification exam administered on campus prior to graduation.
Career Opportunities: Surgical Technologists are employed in hospital surgery departments, obstetric departments, endoscopy departments, and ambulatory surgery centers. They may also specialize in different surgical areas such as cardiothoracic, orthopedic, plastics, neurosurgery, obstetrics, and gynecology, pediatrics, ophthalmic, ENT, and podiatry.
Accreditation Status: The Surgical Technology Program at John A. Logan College has a site visit scheduled for pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org). This step in the process is neither a status of accreditation nor a guarantee that accreditation will be granted.
