General Education (IAI GECC, 37-38 Credits)


Since completion of the A.F.A degree does not complete the Illinois General Education Core Curriculum, students will need to complete the general education requirements of the school to which they transfer.

IAI Communications (3 Courses)


IAI Humanities and Fine Arts (3 Courses)


At least one course must be an IAI Fine Arts elective and one course must be an IAI Humanities elective.

IAI Mathematics (1 Course)


  • Math Elective

IAI Social and Behavioral Sciences (2 Courses)


At least two different disciplines (course prefixes) must be represented.

  • Social Science Elective

IAI Physical/Life Sciences (2 Courses) (7-8 Hours)


One course must include a lab component.

Student Success


Students pursuing a degree or certificate requiring more than 29 credit hours must enroll in a first-year experience course, either ORI 100  or SCI 100 . Students may be exempt if they have 30 or more qualifying transfer credits, have previously completed a first-year experience course, or already hold a degree. To apply for an exemption, students should consult with their academic advisor to complete the ORI 100  Exemption form.

*Music Majors take an evaluation exam during the first full week of MUS 121 . Those needing remediation are required to take MUS 110  concurrently with MUS 121 .

Program Information


This program guide includes recommendations for the Associates in Fine Arts (AFA) degree. This degree requires up to 67 credits and does not require the full IAI GECC component, which can be completed upon transfer.
